Shambhala society encompasses a number of secular disciplines and activities that integrate art and culture with everyday life. Each of these disciplines represents a genuine contemplative path; together they bring beauty, vividness and wisdom to our lives and culture. Shambhala cultural activities may be roughly grouped into four major categories: the arts, health, education, and business. Some of these activities occur within structured organizations; others are pursued by individual practitioners with similar inspirations.

Shambhala Art is art that springs from the meditative state of mind. It is inspired by a collection of teachings by Chögyam Trungpa that appreciates the uniqueness of everyday sensory experience, the art of everyday life. Seeing the simplicity of things as they are provides the ground for genuine creative expression.

The following pages are dedicated to the wakefulness that is expressed through the arts by practitioners of meditation. The first few offerings are from Alan Anderson, co-director of the Windhorse Retreat Center. As more are submitted by our regional sangha members, they will be added.
